Actor Nick Searcy (Fried Green Tomatoes, The Shape of Water, FX’s Justified) was present on January 6, 2021 when a speech by then-President Trump and a peaceful protest erupted into mayhem as agitators broke in to the United States Capitol. In the new documentary film Capitol Punishment, Searcy and director Chris Burgard look at what happened the day of the violence, but also what happened after, as federal law enforcement began arresting dozens upon dozens of attendees of the rally, including many who did not participate in the siege. Searcy shares his own observations from that day, as well as why he thinks the riot was a setup by bad actors to potentially — specifically — cause loss of life.
